The Best of Halloween Havoc - WWE Top 10

In the spirit of Halloween, and some of our unhealthy obsessions with pro wrestling (*cough* Steve Ward *cough*), I ( more like the WWE Network and YouTube...) bring you the Best of Halloween Havoc. This highly entertaining WCW pay-per-view had its run between 1989 and 2000... My brother Steve and I have probably watched every one of these shows... Not live, but on VHS thanks to our local Aberdeen and Manahawkin, New Jersey Blockbuster stores back in the day.

This video brings back a ton of memories revolving around the "cheesy" Halloween gimmick matches like "unknown masked men" interfering in matches, electric chair bouts, and monster truck battles. It feels like just yesterday my brothers and I were watching WCW and beating the crap out of each other on Sunday afternoon after church at our grandma's house. I know... Nothing goes better with Roman Catholic religious ceremonies than juiced up men and women performing sports entertainment theater for millions of viewers, some of whom certainly lived in their parents' basements well into their 30s and collected Pokémon cards (*cough* Justin Dohnson *cough*).

That being said, I'm sure I speak for everyone at The Weigh-In when I say, Happy Halloween! Make sure to check your candy to ensure it has not been messed with... Justin Dohnson is still out there, and rumor has it, he is still angry about his fellow Irishman, Conor McGregor, losing recently... Who knows what he will do after having a good cry, drinking a bottle of Schnapps Sour Apple Pucker, and eating a box of Bon Bons... Don't say I didn't warn you!

Nurmagomedov Taps McGregor & Bedlam Ensues

Finally! The Real People’s Red Head has come back to The Weigh-In!

Let me start off by saying my bold prediction of Nurmagomedov vs. McGregor was wrong. I did not account for Nurmagomedov laying on McGregor and zapping the life out of him. Even still, McGregor looked like he could have still done something in round four. However, as we all feared, Nurmagomedov proved too much on the ground.

Round one opened with good movement from both fighters. Nurmagomedov grabbed McGregor’s leg and it looked promising that McGregor may escape, but he was not able to. Round one ends with McGregor landing a stiff jab and Nurmagomedov sitting on him for the rest of the round. It was very boring but much anticipated.

Round two had a shocking moment, which was Nurmagomedov landing a punch that sent McGregor stumbling. However, even with minimal success in the stand up game, Nurmagomedov takes McGregor down and sits on him for the majority of the round.

Round three was McGregor’s round, and he showed what would happen if the fight remained on the feet. In round three, McGregor showed why he is one of the best strikers in MMA. McGregor landed multiple shots in round three and he could have even possibly won the round. I would give him the round but I might be biased... I am related to the man after all.

Round four had me crying and questioning everything I knew in life. Nurmagomedov takes McGregor down and though McGregor puts on a good fight, he gives up his back and Nurmagomedov wins by choke. The choke looked more like a neck crank but either way, it made McGregor tap.

Nurmagomedov then won and I was super bummed, due to my love for McGregor. However, as many of you know by now, the fight was not over. Nurmagomedov lost his mind and jumped cage, going after Dillon Danis who is one of McGregor’s training coaches. Danis is known as a ju jitsu specialist and is highly regarded in the world of MMA.

As if Nurmagomedov jumping the cage and starting a riot was not enough, one of Nurmagomedov’s entourage snuck into the cage and hit McGregor with a right hand. How despicable is this shit? This is worse than Steve taking a “plus sized” model out for a nice steak dinner and sneaking out of her place the next morning, only to never call her again.

McGregor remained gracious in defeat. He has even stated he will not press charges, something that Nurmagomedov is most likely not familiar with. I hope they have a rematch, but who knows what will happen due to Nurmagomedov’s actions after the win. Congratulations to Nurmagomedov. Like McGregor, I too am gracious when proven wrong.

Bold Prediction for McGregor vs. Nurmagomedov

Finally! The Real People’s Red Head has come back to The Weigh-In!

McGregor allows Nurmagomedov to challenge him tonight. You fans of The Weigh-In are in for a special treat. You are not going to see the headlines that every other combat website has going on right now. We here at The Weigh-In pride ourselves on honest reporting without fear of consequences.

What I am referring to is the fact that every other news outlet is referring to this as the biggest fight of all time. Give me a fucking break. If this match ends up breaking any records it has everything to do with McGregor’s star power and nothing to do with Nuragomedov. Honestly, as we find ourselves on the eve of the fight, I am still shocked it is happening. Are we actually going to see Nuragomedov be healthy and report for a major fight?

I take nothing away from Nuragomedov. It is no secret he is a fucking magician on the ground. However, if we truly breakdown these individuals, we have to discuss everything. Khabib has constantly folded under pressure, though his record may not reflect this fact. How soon we forget that Nuragomedov was slated to go against Tony Ferguson four different times. This match never happened due to a series of odd injuries and horrific weight cuts.

So let us all assume Nuragomedov makes it to the fight tonight and UFC 299 goes off without a hitch. What are we talking about now? I for one think, and I am willing to put it out there, McGregor wins! That is right, I am man enough to fucking pick a winner and put my name on it. I am not solely picking McGregor because we have so much in common and both are from Irish decent. Rest assured, the list of things McGregor and I have in common are fucking down right eerie. Please see my list below:

Both of us have huge wrenches
            Both have hot wives
            Both came to takeover
Both start the day off with a bowl of lucky charms
Both have pots of gold hidden all over the fucking globe

I am picking McGregor because he will once again prove that he is meant to be on the big stage and is one of the best students of mixed martial arts. Nuragomedov is likely to find himself in a similar situation as Eddie Alvarez, gun shy on the ultimate stage in a battle against the UFC’s biggest star. Let us also not forget McGregor is now fighting because it is in his blood.

Think about that last sentence people. McGregor is cashing more checks and breaking more necks than a helicopter salesman at the Catalina wine mixer. McGregor does not have to fight but he is choosing to fight. Everything the man touches turns to fucking gold. I personally hope that he is motivated by how big this event is. The size of this event has little if anything at all to do with Nuragomedov. It pains me to write it people, but it is true. Nuragomedov lost his fan base when the Ferguson fight was cancelled for a fourth time.

Now, he does little if anything to promote this fight. However, the comments he does make sound as if he thinks this is the biggest of the fight all time due to his star power. Other sites will not tell you that this is simply untrue. McGregor is a fucking star and Nuragomedov is someone we all admire but lets us down when it counts.

Let me actually get into to some fight styles regarding this pending bout. Nuragomedov is a ground specialist and if he takes McGregor down and smothers him, it will likely lead him to victory. The question in this fight is going to be one of whether or not Nuragomedov can get in to drag McGregor down. Everyone fears this matchup for McGregor but I think McGregor will rise to the challenge once again.

McGregor’s left cross has goodnight implications. In fact, his power is so dangerous that Will Smith is considering starring in a movie where he plays a physician with a terrible accent studying brain trauma in the individuals McGregor has put to sleep. We do not fact check people, but we do call it as we see it. Honestly, everything you read everywhere else does not matter. This fight will come down to who imposes their will. Do not buy into Nuragomedov having a much improved stand up because if he was focused on that during training camp, he has already lost.

McGregor does not participate in fights without knowing how to cut to the core of his opponents. DO not concern yourself with the ground game of McGregor. None of this shit matters. This fight comes down to the stage and movement of McGregor. With the tools that we all have seen from beginning, he sends Nuragomedov packing and then truly prepares for the biggest fight of all time, and it’s against Tony Ferguson.

McGregor wins by knockout in the second round, count on it. Justindamous has spoken…

Happy Birthday, Conor!

Conor McGregor is at it again... The Irish cage fighter recently gifted himself a $66,000 statue for his upcoming 30th birthday on July 14th.

Check out the footage of the making of this highly-detailed marble statue. This should satisfy your need for updates on McGregor until we hear if and when he will step into the octagon again...

Dustin's Corner: New Year’s Wish List of Dream Fights

Finally! The People’s Red Head has come back to The Weigh-In.

Happy New Year! With 2018 upon us, we cannot help but think of what could be the best fights this year. In between what is known as nocturnal emissions, I have dreamed about 2018, and the fights I want to see. After careful review, please check out my top ten dream fights below:

#10
Tyron Woodley vs. Georges St-Pierre

As Erykah Badu said, you better call on Tyron(e). Woodley does not get enough credit. When I lay down to sleep at night, I think about him and St-Pierre. After typing that last sentence, I stand by it. Listen up fans, do not worry if I dream of men in my sleep.

This matchup would pit two explosive wrestlers against one another. St-Pierre has bulked up, and looked great in his win against Bisping. Woodley has now defeated Stephen Thompson twice, and awaits a big name fight, which he deserves. This fight would go a long way to cementing Woodley’s status as one of the best of all time. However, no one knows what lies next for St-Pierre.

St-Pierre reminds me of my absentee father. It is the holiday season and one never knows if he will show or not. All of a sudden, you get surprised, St-Pierre appears to fight, much like my father appears in my life. Nevertheless, Woodley would take this fight, and I would love for St-Pierre to get on board.

#9
Urijah Faber vs. T.J. Dillashaw

Faber coming out of retirement to fight Dillashaw would be a treat to all fans. This fight has all the fixings of an instant classic. Plus, after the rift that Dillashaw has created at Team Alpha Male, Faber has stated he is willing to settle their differences in the Octagon.

(Urijah Faber - UFC.com)

When I think of Faber coming out of retirement to face Dillashaw, I get full pants people. This fight has a little something for everyone. There is the drama of being former teammates, the endless shit talk, and now, a rumor Dillashaw aborted Faber’s love child. One of those items above may not be true. Would Dillashaw entertain this match? I think that due to his lack of draw, he should consider this bout. Faber is a fan favorite and still capable of drawing pay-per-view numbers.

#8
Anderson Silva vs. Chris Weidman 2.5

I know that this one is questionable, but it is my article, and I will write what I want. Silva, who may be the most talented fighter to ever grace MMA has a lot of mileage on him. He has also recently been popped for violation of the UFC’s anti-doping policies. However, as a fan, this fight has never sat well with me.

In their first match, Weidman knocks out Silva while Silva is clowning him. Up to that point, it can be argued that Silva was dominating Weidman. In the second fight, Silva broke his leg, putting an end to the bout. One wonders if steroids caused brittle bones? Let us not worry about the science behind the previous question. It is neither here, nor there.

This is a fight I would love to see, but it will never happen. At this point, we are not even certain if we will see Silva in the octagon again. He was once again popped for violation of the UFC’s anti-doping policy. However, I will always wonder if he did not clown Weidman, would he have remained undefeated?

#7
Matt Ward vs. Steve Ward

Close friends of the “Brothers Ward” know that this bout has been brewing for years. This rivalry dates back to the early 90's, and while they are both on the decline physically, the general public would still love to see this fight happen in 2018. However, as both brothers now train out of different gyms, we are not sure it will ever happen.

Who could forget the 2014 road trip to L.A. when Steve got pissed over Matt listening to the Jerky Boys, and drinking all of the sake L.A. had to offer. This match also materialized again in 2016, when scandal erupted between the two siblings. Surveillance video revealed Matt Ward doing something that can only be described as huffing Steve’s underpants. An irate Steve Ward pushed Matt, but this domestic disturbance was broken up by the police, leaving the fans curious of what could have been.

#6
Dominick Cruz vs. Demetrious Johnson

After losing his belt to Garbrandt, we have not seen Cruz back in action. For my money, he is still one of the best in the bantamweight division. Who would not want to see these two tangle again? Fans may remember that Cruz handed Johnson his last loss back in 2011.

(Dominick Cruz - MMAJunkie.com)

Johnson has ran through the flyweight division and needs a challenge. I’m not sure if Cruz could make the weight, but a catch weight bout would be sensational. This is the type of match where belts do not matter. This is a match that would allow both men to get paid, and I’m sure that fans everywhere want to see this match happen. Both fighters are future hall of famers, and frankly, this is the fight that would propel them into the upper echelon of UFC popularity.

#5
Ronald McDonald vs. Hamburglar

Another match that has been brewing for years is Ronald McDonald versus the Hamburglar. This is not just a match made for WWE 2K17; this is a match that all fast food enthusiasts want to see. We all know that gingers are awesome, and as such, Ronald McDonald would be the favorite. He brings food, folks, and fun to everyone.

However, the Hamburglar feels like he has been overshadowed for years. He has a lot of animosity toward Ronald, and feels he should be McDonald’s number one spokesman. If that was not enough, Hamburglar has been accused of gross embezzlement. It is rumored that he has embezzled millions of dollars in hamburgers since the late 80's.

Ronald has been attempting to take the high road. He contends there is no feud between the two. However, those closest to him report that the feud is still alive and well. Even more, the Ronald camp dropped a bomb when they reported to The Weigh-In that Ronald refers to the Hamburglar as a beefer. For those who do not know, that is racially derogatory term for white hamburger enthusiasts. It is shocking to hear the family friendly clown speak with such a tone, but not surprising given the history of these two. Lets hope 2018 is the year they squash the beef.

#4
Max Holloway vs. Frankie Edgar

Holloway is fresh off his second successful victory over Jose Aldo. The Hawaiian looks unstoppable and willing to fight anyone. In fact, the last time I was this excited about something coming out of Hawaii was when I first tried Spam. I should also mentioned I am a huge B.J. Penn fan. He was amazing!

Holloway has really grabbed the torch and ran with it, representing Hawaii with extreme dominance of the featherweight division. Who better to test the Hawaiian than New Jersey’s own, Frankie “The Answer” Edgar? One may recall, Edgar had previous success against another Hawaiian, B.J. Penn. This fight bodes the question of can he transfer his previous success against the hard-hitting Holloway?

This fight was actually supposed to take place, but Edgar recently suffered an orbital bone fracture, forcing him to pull out. This infuriated the Ward brothers as everyone knows, they do not believe in pulling out. We wish Edgar a speedy recovery and truly hope this fight gets underway in 2018.

#3
Luke Rockhold vs. Daniel Cormier

While I am aware they train out of the same camp, a fan can dream. Rockhold against Cormier would be an amazing show down. We have two world-class wrestlers who know each other’s game. This fight would promise to be an excellent display of the ground game.

However, it will never happen, but is on my dream list due to Cormier not currently having anyone throw down within his own division. I feel Luke would make a worthy opponent for Cormier. While it will never happen, fans can dream of what it would be like. Both men are highly skilled and truly terrifying inside the Octagon.

#2
Conor McGregor vs. Tony Ferguson

McGregor has his choice of anything he wants to do. He recently said he would be seen inside the WWE. He followed that up with stating his next fight would be an MMA match. With the entire landscape of the sport being his oyster, there are so many options for him to choose from. However, to me, it would make the most sense that he take on Tony Ferguson.

Ferguson is one of the scariest fighters on the planet. He has no flaws in his game. On top of that, he has cardio that lasts for days, which tends to cause problems for McGregor. Whether this fight will happen remains unknown. However, this fight could have just as easily been in my number one slot.

This fight would promise to be a good ole fashioned slugfest. I for one think that Ferguson could match McGregor on the feet, and more importantly, would be willing to do so. Not only would this match be one of the largest pay-per-view draws, it would require me to constantly change out of my wet pants, should it actually come to fruition.

#1
Jon Jones vs. Brock Lesnar

No one knows what the future holds for Jon Jones. His punishment for his latest anti-doping violation has still not been determined. Due to this, who knows when, or if we will ever see Jones in the Octagon again? However, all fans want to see him take on Brock Lesnar.

This fight would promise to be the biggest UFC bout of all time. However, both men have their PED issues, which may prevent this dream bout from ever unfolding. If they did square up, it would be amazing. Jon Jones can stand and bang, and he is also capable of wrestling with Lesnar. Jones is so versatile that one wonders if he could dominate Lesnar the way he has the rest of the UFC.
While I do believe Jones vs. Lesnar belongs in the number one dream slot, it is not likely we will ever see it, truly making it a dream. At this point, I just hope Jones gets to fight again in the UFC. However, if Jones is able of a return, perhaps the two could make arrangements to fight in Japan, where I hear they are a little lax on their performance enhancing drug testing.

Dustin's Corner: UFC 218 Breakdown

Finally! The People’s Red Head has come back to The Weigh-In!

Last weekend was a big weekend in MMA as UFC 218 got underway in the homeland of The People’s Red Head. Brand new Little Caesars Arena in Detroit, Michigan hosted a dynamite UFC 218 fight card.

The main event was Holloway vs. Aldo II. We are not one to spread rumors, but Aldo has never been the same since the UFC adopted their strict anti-doping policy. You did not hear this from us though. We are sure that everyone prior to the anti-doping age was on the level. By level, we are referring to the Jersey Shore level of Matthew Ward, whom is seen with syringes hanging out of his ass from time to time. (J/K)

(Matt Ward - Not Pictured)

Holloway vs. Aldo II

As many already know, Holloway previously defeated Aldo, but Aldo was granted a rematch for some odd reason. The second fight was everything the fans wanted, with the outcome that was pretty much expected. A three round war ensued, and this fight is now a candidate for fight of the year.

The match opened with Aldo looking good. Aldo threw heavy hands and was landing well. Aldo’s defense also looked good and he was able to avoid most of Holloway’s attacks in rounds one and two. However, much like their first fight, Aldo did not throw his legendary leg kicks, which experts felt would be his key to victory in the rubber match.

By the third round, Aldo slowed, and Holloway looked fresher than the Snuggle Bear during a Downy commercial. Holloway eventually found a home for his attack on Aldo’s face. Holloway earned a third-round stoppage due to punches. If you did not know, Holloway is an animal. He has won 12 straight inside the octagon.

Holloway looks to be tougher than my mother’s overcooked beef during Friday night dinner. One of the dream fights we all want is Holloway vs. McGregor. However, in the post fight interview, Holloway advised his fans that he is operating under the assumption that McGregor will not be returning to the octagon. We can all still dream though.

Alistair Overeem took on Francis Ngannou

This was the co-main event at UFC 218. Overeem, the former champ was looking to regain his position in the top of the division. However, Ngannou has other plans for the hall of famer. Ngannou ended Overeem’s night at 1:42 of round one with a devastating left hook. The hook hit Overeem so hard, that I evacuated my own bowels due to the blow.

Ngannou has put the division and the world on notice. This man is dangerous and highly skilled. Everything is more deadly in the heavyweight division, but Ngannou is still terrifying. After his knock out of Overeem, I find myself locking the deadbolt at night. Following the win, it is rumored that Ngannou will get a title shot against Stipe Miocic. We hope this rumor is true, as the fight would promise to be amazing.

(Dustin Johnson Scared Straight)

We hope this rumor is true, as the fight would promise to be amazing.

Henry Cejudo vs. Sergio Pettis

Cejudo vs. Pettis went the distance. Pettis is an up and comer who is loaded with talent. However, Cejudo is a crafty veteran who has spent most of this time at the top of the 125-pound division. This fight lived up to it’s billing. Both men are explosive and exciting, and they did not disappoint.

While Pettis did well on his feet, Cejudo took him down and held him down often. Pettis appeared to have no answer for the ground game of Cejudo, and not to take anything away from him, because many in the division cannot solve the Cejudo wrestling game. The final round was more of the same, dominating ground game from Cejudo. The judges felt same, Cejudo won by unanimous decision.

Eddie Alvarez vs. Justin Gaethje

One of the biggest fights of the evening was Alvarez vs. Gaethje. This fight did not get enough hype for my liking. Gaethje is the former long time World Series of Fighting titleholder. He has spent his career undefeated, which many felt was due to lack of competition in the World Series of Fighting promotion.

However, he takes on all challengers, and found himself squaring off against former champion, Eddie Alvarez. Like Gaethje’s mom told him, there would be days like this; he was still devastated by a knock out loss to Alvarez. However, this fight was epic!

Round one starts with Gaethje utilizing leg kicks that had immediate impact on Alvarez. Gaethje also found a home for his punches in the early stages of round one. However, as the round progressed, Alvarez invested in bodywork, which paid dividends not only at the end of round one, but in the later rounds as well.

Round two was perhaps the most exciting round. Gaethje went right back to leg kicks to open the round. Gaethje also found a home for his heavy right hand. However, as he was having success, Alvarez landed a big upper cut. As the round progressed, Alvarez began sitting behind his jab. The round ends with Alvarez once again putting in work to Gaethje’s body.

Round three was thrilling! Gaethje landed huge shots, including two uppercuts. It looked like Alvarez was going down. However, they got into a clench, and Alvarez lands a knee that ended Gaethje’s night. The knee came right through Gaethje’s guard, making Alvarez victorious by knock out victory.

Paul Felder vs. Charles Oliveira

Another fight on the card that went under the radar was Felder vs. Oliveira. Felder, who recently made his commentating debut, returned to action against the dangerous Oliveira.

Oliveira might have some of the most devastating leg kicks in the division. He opened up with them in round one. Oliveira also dragged Felder down, but Felder was able to get back to his feet. Felder had great success on his feet, as he made Oliveira eat a couple of left hooks.

In round two, Oliveira shot for a take down against Felder, with no success. It is unclear whether Oliveira was tired, or what was going on, but Felder’s attack was relentless as they rolled around on the ground. Felder gained the top position and began raining down elbows on Oliveira. The elbows eventually forced Oliveira to tap.

I am so proud of Felder, aka, the Other People’s Red Head. That is right folks, we gingers cheer for one another, when we are not stealing your souls. Of course, Felder has had his ups and downs, but this was a good win. He is really coming into his own, and hopefully a big name fight is next for Felder.

Dustin's Corner: Jon “Bones” Jones Popped Hot and the World has Lost All Meaning

Do you hear me knocking? Well, let me in! Finally! The People’s Red Head has come back to The Weigh-In!

We are breaking news people! Jon Jones failed a drug test after defeating Daniel Cormier at UFC 214. This news has shocked the MMA world. Reactions to Jones failed test results are all over the map. No one knows what to believe anymore. The next thing we will be told is that Lance Armstrong was juicing during his Tour de France domination. To think Jon “Bones” Jones would cheat is like finding out Hulk Hogan was juicing, brother. I refuse to even discuss whether “Sly” Stallone was on something during the Rocky era.

For those living under a rock, Mr. Jones has been a dominant force in the UFC. He was arguably the pound-for-pound, scariest man on the planet. However, the tests results following his performance at UFC 214 tested positive for some sort of banned substance. It was confirmed that cocaine was not in his system, but in the words of Matthew McConaughey, it would be a lot cooler if it was. Cocaine is something we could wrap our heads around. Mr. Jones has constantly denied steroid use during the course of his career.

Due to Jon’s history of substance abuse, the result of his recent drug test could lead to a suspension of four years. He is in his prime, and a four-year suspension would essentially be a career ender. His options would be limited to fighting somewhere overseas where the testing is less than current. This is a polite way of saying he would be reduced to fighting in the wild west of combat sports where competitors enter the ring with syringes dangling from their buttocks.

As a huge fan of Mr. Jones I feel it is critical to remind everyone that not all the facts are in. All we know is that Jon had an A and B failed sample that I believe was taken prior to UFC 214. Mr. Jones has failed in the past due to some sort of tainted supplement and I am hopeful that this is the issue in this matter. Has anyone ever seen the list of banned substance out on the USADA website? The list can be found at:  https://www.usada.org/substances/prohibited-list/athlete-guide-2017-prohibited-list/. The last list I saw of this magnitude was everything my ex wanted me to change about myself... Trust me, that list had USADA beat!

The Jones' camp has been very quiet. Everyone believes this is because he is guilty, but it is most likely due to the fact that the investigation is ongoing. It is important to remember that not all of the facts are in. I am pulling for Mr. Jones. I could not imagine MMA without Mr. Jones. Outside of Conor, Jones is the biggest name in the sport.

Another important factor that has gone mostly unreported is the impact this result has had on Daniel Cormier. Cormier has been a consummate professional and ambassador of MMA. Cormier dominates the sport with the exception of fighting against Jones. Fans continue to boo Cormier who may very well be the best example of a role model in all of combat sports. It is a true shame. Cormier is an inspiration to us all.

As the Jones' results continue to unfold, it will be more than interesting. Here at The Weigh-In Boxing Blog and Podcast, we will keep you posted as the information becomes available. Our thoughts go out to Mr. Jones and we wish Daniel Cormier continued success.

People’s Red Head Out!

Dustin's Corner: Luke Rockhold Victorious at UFC Fight Night 116

Finally, The People’s Red Head has come back to the Weigh-In!

While Canelo and GGG were going at it Saturday night, Luke Rockhold was also in action. Rockhold reaffirmed his dominance in the 185 pound division by defeating David Branch with ground and pound strikes.

It has been almost two years since Rockhold lost his belt in shocking fashion to Mike
Bisping. Rockhold took the first step toward reclaiming the waist hardware Saturday night.

Round one opened with Rockhold showing octagon rust. David Branch put on a smothering attack, similar to the style Bisping utilized to pull off the upset. Branch smothered Rockhold against the octagon and continued to connect. Branch wisely left no room for Rockhold to release his devastating leg kicks. While being smothered, Rockhold gestured for his corner to calm down. Round one ended with Rockhold taking Branch down.

The take down in round one was the catalyst for a dominating round two performance from Rockhold. Rockhold owned round two. He eventually took Branch down to the canvas and submitted him with strikes.

In true Rockhold fashion, he had a lot to say during his post fight interview. Rockhold advised Georges St-Pierre to get out while he can. We all know how Rockhold feels about the pending bout between Bisping and GSP.

Saturday’s win will put Rockhold back in contention. One would think he gets to face the winner of the Bisping fight. However, the UFC goes off script all the time. The 185 pound division remains murky. There is a lot of talent at the top.

Does Rockhold have a legitimate complaint? It is so hard to say. McGregor gets his belt taken away in under six months time. It is rumored Dana White stripped McGregor of one of his belts after McGregor was caught leaving an upper decker in the executive restroom... We do not fact check people, just report what is what! (LOL)

In all seriousness, interim titles are ruining UFC bouts. Most of them have little to no significant meaning. Rockhold is at the top of the division and deserves a shot to take his title back. However, he will have to take a number.

It was a great weekend of fights, and congratulations to Mr. Rockhold!

Dustin's Corner: Floyd Mayweather Retires from Boxing after Retiring McGregor

Finally...

The People’s Red Head has come back to The Weigh-In!

Saturday night marked the mega fight between Mayweather and McGregor. Hopefully the readers will forever remember what they were doing when the pay-per-view stopped working. We imagine the next generation will be telling their grand-kids about the passing of Michael Jackson, 9-11, President Trump’s election, and how pay-per-view went out during Saturday’s mega fight.

Regardless of what the feelings were leading up to the fight, Mayweather did not disappoint. Once the fight got underway, it was a different Mayweather than we are used to seeing. Hats off to McGregor who gave it his all, until expending all the energy he had to give.

As many suspected, Mayweather gave the early rounds to McGregor. It appeared, as per usual, Mayweather spent the first three rounds downloading McGregor’s attack. To his credit, in the early rounds, McGregor gave Mayweather everything he could handle. If you listened carefully, you could hear Vegas sports books quaking in the early rounds.

Mayweather then began to focus on the body and left McGregor looking shaky in round 7. His earlier investment of body work paid off in round 10. Round 10 was all Money. Mayweather walked McGregor down forcing referee Robert Boyd to call a stop to the action.

Many individuals felt the stoppage was premature. To that, we say two things: why are you wasting time on other sites over The Weigh-In, and seriously, there was no need for the fight to continue. It was apparent that McGregor’s tank was empty and there was no need for him to take unnecessary punishment.

Hopefully fans enjoyed the fight. It was clear McGregor put in the work and he looked terrific. However, Mayweather’s experience was really on display. Boxing fans everywhere get bragging rights that the sport prevailed. One cannot help but wonder if we will see another crossover fight in the future.

I will close with this; Mayweather forgot to send out invites to his after party. For this, we will forgive him, but it still hurts. We cannot even get McGregor to spit in our direction, and I am Irish. In all seriousness, a thank you to both for putting on a great show.

The People’s Red Head Out!

Now Back to Boxing...

In case you have been living under a rock for the last couple of days, Floyd Mayweather Jr. (50-0) defeated Conor McGregor (0-1) via a tenth round TKO this weekend in Las Vegas. The crafty veteran capitalized on McGregor's endurance problems during the second half of the contest. Kudos to McGregor for looking far better than most boxing analysts thought he would, even against an aging Mayweather. Now we can only hope that this was the first and last time we see McGregor in the boxing ring...

Now that the Mayweather vs. McGregor weekend is over, we can get back to boxing. The next big fight coming up this year is a middleweight title unification contest between Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (49-1-1) and Gennady "GGG" Golovkin (37-0) on September 16th in Las Vegas. The winner of this contest will sit on top of the middleweight division, a division that has had a number of tough and popular fighters pass through its ranks in recent years.

Alvarez is coming off of a May unanimous decision victory over the son of a Mexican boxing legend, Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. Canelo's only loss came at the hands of Floyd Mayweather Jr. in 2013. Golovkin, who is undefeated, most recently won a close fight via unanimous decision over Daniel Jacobs at Madison Square Garden in March.

Stay tuned to The Weigh-In Boxing Blog and Podcast over the next few weeks for more information on this bout and undercard!

Gervonta Davis Fails to Make Weight

Gervonta Davis (18-0, 17 KOs) came in two pounds over the 130 pounds limit on Friday at the weigh-in, in Las Vegas for his title defense against challenger, Francisco Fonseca (19-0-1, 13 KOs). This is not the first time that Davis has had trouble making weight. Prior to his title defense against Liam Walsh in May, he needed three attempts to make weight. Although the fight will still take place tonight on the Mayweather vs. McGregor undercard, Davis has been stripped of his IBF Junior Lightweight Title. If Fonseca defeats Davis, he can still be crowned the new IBF Junior Lightweight champion.

This seems to be just another chapter to the "soap opera" that will finally end this evening. I am very disappointed to see a young and talented fighter fail to make weight in a fight that may turn out to be the most viewed of his career. I truly hope that Davis bounces back from this setback, and learns a lesson in the importance of making weight... Especially in title fights!

"Huge" Weekend for Boxing

Well "fight" fans, we are officially on the home stretch to the spectacle that has overshadowed the great fights of the year, as well as those on the horizon, Mayweather vs. McGregor... If you plan on purchasing the pay-per-view, then you are in for a solid undercard of boxing, and a main event that will bring together the worlds of boxing and MMA for the first (and probably not the last) time in history. If you are going to tune into this mega circus, that means that you are going to miss a great card on HBO.

The HBO card features future Boxing Hall of Famer, Miguel Cotto (40-5) in what is being billed as his final bout against Japanese star, Yoshihiro Kamegai (27-3-2), for the vacant WBO World Super Welterweight Title. Unfortunately, this competitive matchup will hurt in the viewership department due to poor scheduling by the Cotto camp and HBO. It is important to note that Cotto went on the record recently to say that he never considered moving this fight to appease Floyd Mayweather. The Cotto vs. Kamegai card also features a very exciting matchup between Rey Vargas (29-0) and Ronny Rios (28-1) for the WBC World Super Bantamweight Title.

Now back to the Mayweather vs. McGregor circus' card... The seven-bout card kicks off with three non-televised preliminary bouts, one of which is a bout between two women making their professional debuts. The main card starts at 9 PM EST, and features three title fights that include familiar names from the world of boxing. The bout I am most looking forward to is the WBA Light Heavyweight Title fight between Nathan Cleverly and Badou Jack. Cleverly is coming off of a October 1, 2016 RTD victory over Juergen Braehmer. Jack most recently fought to a MD draw against James DeGale in January. The undercard also features Mayweather Promotions' rising star, Gervonta Davis, and 41-year-old former world champion, Steve Cunningham. I highly recommend tuning in for the undercard, because the fights will likely blow away the main event!

Below is the breakdown of the full Mayweather vs. McGregor card:

Preliminary Card -

Juan Heraldez (12-0) vs. Jose Miguel Borrego (13-0) - Welterweights

Kevin Newman (7-0-1) vs. Antonio Hernandez (9-1) - Super Middleweights

Savannah Marshall (Pro Debut) vs. Amy Coleman (Pro Debut) - Women's Super Middleweights

Main Card -

Floyd Mayweather Jr. (49-0) vs. Conor McGregor (Pro Debut), Light Middleweights

Gervonta Davis (18-0) vs. Francisco Fonseca (19-0-1), IBF Super Featherweight Title

Nathan Cleverly (30-3) vs. Badou Jack (21-1-2), WBA Light Heavyweight Title

Andrew Tabiti (14-0) vs. Steve Cunningham (29-8-1), USBA Cruiserweight Title
