Claressa Shields vs. Tori Nelson

2018 will kick off with a solid boxing card from Turning Stone Resort Casino in Verona, NY on January 12th. This card, which will be televised on Showtime, features a main event super middleweight women's bout between two-time Olympic Gold Medalist Claressa Shields (4-0, 2 KOs) and Tori Nelson (17-0-3, 2 KOs). Shields will defend her IBF/WBC Women's Super Middleweight Title against the undefeated veteran fighter, Nelson. Shields, who is coming off a TKO victory over Nikki Adler (16-1, 9 KOs) in August, looks to continue her ascent towards boxing stardom by defeating yet another tough opponent in the women's ranks of professional boxing. The 41-year-old Nelson, who defeated Latashia Burton (4-10) in November, looks to capture her first IBF title over a professional career that has spanned just under eight years. Nelson is arguably best remembered for her May 17, 2014 victory over women's boxing legend, Mia St. John (49-14-2, 19 KOs) for the Women's International Boxing Association World Welterweight Title.

The following bouts are also scheduled for this exciting night of boxing from Verona:

Jesse Angel Hernandez (10-1, 7 KOs) vs. Ernesto Garza (9-2, 5 KOs) - ten rounds, junior featherweights

Christina Hammer (22-0, 10 KOs) vs. Lisa Noel Garland (15-9, 8 KOs) - ten rounds, female middleweights
